Women's T20 World Cup

Muneeba Ali smashes century as Pakistan crush Ireland at Women's T20 World Cup

Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali set up an impressive win for Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup with a match-changing century against Ireland in Cape Town on Wednesday.

The 70-run triumph put Pakistan in the third spot in the group with two points after England and India secured first and second positions, respectively, with their back-to-back victories in the first two matches. Pakistan lost to India in the first game of the tournament on Feb 12.

According to Cricinfo, Muneeba became the first woman to score a T20I hundred for Pakistan and only the sixth to score one in a T20 World Cup.

Muneeba's 102 off 68 balls helped Pakistan pose a competitive total at a loss of five wickets, while Dar's 33 in the later part of the innings was another notable contribution for Team Green. No other player could enter the double digits.

In a post-match talk following her match-winning knock, Muneeba credited batting partner Dar with encouraging her at a crucial point of the innings.

“I was very confident when I got out there. When I made a start in the powerplay I thought it would be my day and I could make it count,” she said.

“Then I had a partnership with Nida and she was always telling me to keep going and score big.

“So from the 12th or 13th over I felt I could make a hundred, and she pushed me. I was playing with my feet and trying to understand where they were trying to bowl and make a plan where I could find a boundary," Muneeba continued.

“I want to dedicate my (Player of the Match) award to my captain (Bismah Maroof) and my teammates. We had a bad game (against India) and we fight a lot, but everyone is happy today.”

Pakistan will play their next game against West Indies in Paarl on Sunday (Feb 19).

All cricket boards are committed to work together’ Wasim Khan

Karachi: The CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wasim Khan said that all the cricket boards assured to work together during an important International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Committee’s meeting.

“There has never been a more important time for our global cricket community to be unified and there was a clear commitment from colleagues on today’s meeting to work in the collective best interest of our sport,” Khan said in a statement.

“Today’s meeting was the first step in a longer-term process that will enable us to take a joined-up approach to decision making as we shape our response to this pandemic to get cricket back on an even keel,” he added.

It must be noted here that ICC’s Chief Executive Manu Sawhney called a meeting on Thursday to discuss the future of cricket amid worldwide lockdown situation due to widely-spread coronavirus.

The CEOs of the 12 Full Members and three Associate representatives confirmed their full commitment to work in partnership to address the challenges the sport will face in the coming weeks and months.

The future of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021, World Test Championship and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League was also discussed during the teleconference.

INFANTINO SAYS FOOTBALL

INFANTINO SAYS FOOTBALL WILL BE TOTALLY DIFFERENT AFTER CORONAVIRUS

ROME-Football will be totally different when it eventually resumes after the coronavirus outbreak, the head of global soccer body FIFA Gianni Infantino said on Thursday.

“Football will come back, and when it does, we’ll celebrate coming out of a nightmare together,” he told the Italian news agency ANSA in an interview. “There is one lesson, however, that both you and me must have understood: the football that will come after the virus will be totally different...(more) inclusive, more social and more supportive, connected to the individual countries and at the same time more global, less arrogant and more welcoming.”

He added: “We will be better, more human and more attentive to true values.” Last week, Infantino told Gazzetta dello Sport that it was the right time to take a step back and reform a sport where fixture lists have become overloaded and financial resources increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few elite clubs. He suggested there could be “fewer, but more interesting tournaments. Maybe fewer squads, but more balance. Fewer, but more competitive, matches to safeguard the health of the players

Fantasy Finishes in a Flourish

14 Jul 2014

Listen
The final round of McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ ended in incredible fashion with the winner being decided by the slimmest of margins!
Overall standings
A goal was all it took to separate Germany and Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final™. Similarly in McDonald’s Fantasy, three points was the margin that separated the winner of McDonald’s Fantasy from the runner-up! Frip69 finished on 893 points while Portugal’s CONDEY recorded 890 points. Both opted for a 5-4-1 formation, but a combination of Captain choice and midfielder selection for the final round gave the American the nudge needed to win the Grand Prize.

Round 7 Winner
Yet again, we had a tie for first place in a round of McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy! RSN1869 and Zay4atinka scored 130 points each to cement their places at the top of the Round 7 table. One point behind them, FutboleyBCN and Carlão23 finished in joint-third.

In accordance with the rules, FIFA conducted tie-breaking draws to decide the Prize winners for Round 7. Zay4atinka  was declared the winner. For his efforts, RSN1869 will receive the second-place prize. The Third-place prize goes to FutboleyBCN.

Most valuable signing: Daley Blind (Netherlands)
With a clean sheet and a goal to his name against Brazil, the 24-year old defender was a fantastic deal at 4m. Blind secured 14 points for managers backing him in the match against Brazil.
Disappointing purchases: Hulk (Brazil)
The goalscoring pressure on Hulk increased after Neymar was sidelined for Brazil and the solid forward failed to rise to the challenge. In Round 7, Hulk recorded a single point, an unimpressive return for his 7.5m price tag.

Highest points-scoring team: Netherlands
It was a close race between Germany and Netherlands for the highest scoring team of Round 7. Thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over Brazil, The Dutch edged out the eventual champions by 104 points to 99 respectively.

Klose considers Germany future

14 Jul 2014

 Listen
Miroslav Klose, finally a FIFA World Cup™ winner at the fourth time of asking, will decide over the coming days whether he wants to continue playing for Germany.

Twelve years after tasting defeat in the final in Yokohama, Klose took home his first World Cup winner's medal on Sunday night after Germany beat Argentina 1-0 after extra-time. Klose earned a standing ovation in the 88th minute when he made way for Germany's match-winner Mario Gotze.

Having become the leading World Cup scorer of all time in Brazil, now seems a poignant time for the 36-year-old to call it a day, but he may yet carry on.

"I do not know yet if I will go on with the national team," said the striker, who scored his 16th World Cup goal in the 7-1 win over Brazil. "I'll take a couple of nights to sleep on it and then make the right decision."

Miroslav Klose, Germany forward

The celebrations for Klose and his team-mates began straight after the final whistle and an hour later some of the players formed a merry conga as they filed past the media and out of the stadium with beer in hand. On Tuesday, a huge party will be thrown in Berlin when the squad lands on home soil.

Lazio striker Klose made his World Cup bow in Japan and Korea in 2002, where he reached the final before losing 2-0 to Brazil. Four years later he won the Golden Boot but Germany only made the semi-finals on home soil, losing to Italy thanks to two very late extra-time goals.

Four years ago Klose took home a second third-place honour but he can now add a medal he really savours to his collection.

"This is outstanding, it crowns everything," he said."We finished second once, were third twice, but this is world-class. I can hardly comprehend it. It was always a dream to be up there (getting the trophy) and not just having to stand around and have to applaud others. The team's performances were important, we wanted to keep our calm because we knew we had the better quality to win it."

Just like coach Joachim Low, Germany's all-time record scorer always knew Gotze had the ability to win the tight match in the Maracana: "Before Mario came on for me, I said to him 'You can make it happen'," Klose revealed.

Bastian Schweinsteiger also has two medals for third place but now he knows how it feels to lift the World Cup too. The 29-year-old epitomised Germany's tireless and industrious attitude in midfield. The Bayern Munich man also ended the match with a nasty cut underneath his right eye following an aerial clash with Sergio Aguero. He believes the fact that two substitutes combined to set up Germany's goal showed how strong their squad is.

"I've never been in a team that has so much power off the bench," he said. "That is the reason why we won the World Cup. We're going to enjoy the moment now. It's incredible. I would like to thank all of Germany for the support. We have felt that support here."

Germany's next target is to dominate world football for years, as Spain did by winning three major trophies in succession.

The potential is there for Germany, sporting had one of the youngest squads in Brazil, and they were also without potential stars like Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan and twins Lars and Sven Bender through injury.

"We all had an incredible cohesion since the preparation camp, and we even had a few setbacks when we lost players like (Lars) Bender and Marco Reus," goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said. "But they are also world champions. The whole of Germany is world champion. It's unbelievable. It is a great experience."

But on the disastrous 2011/12 India tour of Australia, in which India's senior batsmen struggled throughout, Kohli stood out, scoring his first Test hundred in Adelaide.[6]

Kohli was the recipient of the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in 2012.[7] SportsPro has rated him the 13th most marketable athlete in the world.[8] In October 2013, against Australia, Kohli smashed the fastest ODI century by an Indian, the seventh fastest ever.[9] In November 2013, he became the top ranked ODI batsman for the first time.[10] Kohli, also received the Man of the Tournament during the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.[

Of Shahid Afridi it can safely be said that cricket never has and never will see another like him. To say he is an allrounder is to say Albert Einstein was a scientist; it tells a criminally bare story.
For a start, the slant of his all-round skills only became clear ten years into his career; he is a leg-spinning allrounder. Variety is his calling and as well as a traditional leg-break, he has two googlies, a conventional offie and a lethal faster one, though this is increasingly rare. All come with the threat of considerable, late drift. He fairly hustles through overs, which in limited-over formats is a weapon in itself and the package is dangerous.
In 2009 Afridi became one of the World’s most expensive cricketers in the IPL auction.

Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi is a cricket player for the Pakistan National team. He exploded on to the cricket scene by scoring the fastest century in ODIs in his very first innings. He was initially selected as a bowler but after his big hitting in his 1st innings, he focused more on his batting. In recent years he has gone back to focusing on his bowling . His style of play is best suited to the shortest form of the game T20s.

Achievements:
Career Highlights of SHAHID AFRIDI :

(1) On 4 October 1996, playing his maiden international innings, Afridi hit the fastest One-Day century off 37 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi. His innings included 28 runs off one of Sanath Jayasuriya's overs, whose record he broke.

(2) Youngest player in history to make an ODI century at just 16 years and 217 days with his 37 ball ton against Sri Lanka. It included 11 sixes and 6 fours.

(3) Made a half-century from 26 balls and took 3 second-innings wickets in Pakistan's series- drawing Test victory against India in March 2005.

(4) Holds the joint record with Brian Lara for the third fastest ODI century off 45 balls in April 2005 against India. This actually was the first match that witnessed the Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri make him the nickname Boom Boom Afridi.

(5) Equal highest aggregate sixes scored in the 50-over game, shared the legendary Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya, and he the most sixes per innings record.

(6) Scored four consecutive sixes off a Harbhajan Singh over in a Test match against India in January 2006, matching a feat that Kapil Dev achieved in 1990.

(7) Was the First player to score 12 runs off one ball, by hitting the roof of the Millennium Stadium. This took place in a game of Power Cricket.

(8) Holds four of the top eight fastest ODI half centuries, twice completed in 18 balls and twice in 20 balls. He has also scored a half century of just 21 balls.

(9) Made 32 runs off a Malinga Bandara over in an ODI game at Abu Dhabi in 2007. He struck four consecutive sixes and it was the 2nd most expensive over in ODI history.

(10) Afridi is only third player in ODI history to achieve the combination of 5000 runs and 200 wickets. The other players being Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya and South African Jacques Kallis.

(11) Bernie Geoffrion, a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach was also nicknamed "Boom Boom" Geoffrion

Sohail made his first-class debut in 1983, a left-handed opening batsman and occasional left-arm spin bowler. In a playing career that spanned eighteen years, Sohail played in 195 first-class and 261 List A Limited Overs matches, including 47 Test matches and 156 One Day Internationals for Pakistani.
Debut
An aggressive batsman, Sohail's first appeared for the national team in a 1990 one-day International against Sri Lanka and enjoyed a successful international career. He was an important member of the team that won the 1992 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
1996-98: Pakistan Captain
Sohail captained Pakistan in six Tests in 1998, becoming the first Pakistani captain to defeat South Africa in a Test Match. He led Pakistan through 22 One Day Internationals from 1996 to 1998, winning nine and averaging 41.5 with the bat.
Sohail played a big role in Pakistan's World-Cup triumph in 1992, famously telling Ian Botham that he might want to send his mother-in-law in to bat after Botham was controversially given out for nought in the final. Sohail's most infamous moment on the cricket field, however, was in the 1996 World Cup Quarter Final against arch rival India in Bangalore. Sohail was captaining the side in pursuit of a relatively large target of 287 in 50 overs. With opening partner Saeed Anwar, he got Pakistan off to a flying start. With the score at 109 for one, and Saeed Anwar (48) back in the pavilion, Sohail smashed a delivery from Indian seamer Venkatesh Prasad through the covers for four. Both players exchanged words, and Sohail unnecessarily pointed his finger aggressively at Prasad. The next delivery clean-bowled him and triggered a batting collapse which ultimately lost the game and eliminated Pakistan from the competition.

Saqlain Mushtaq

Saqlain Mushtaq

Saqlain Mushtaq biogaraphy

source.link.google.com

Saqlain Mushtaq, Cricketers is famous for Cricket, Pakistani celebrity. Born on 29 December, 1976

Saqlain Mushtaq is a Pakistani cricketer, regarded as one of the finest off spin bowlers of all time. He is best known for pioneering the "doosra", which he employed to great effect during his career. Saqlain has not been active in international cricket since 2004.

Career

Saqlain made his international debut in September 1995 playing against Sri Lanka at Peshawar. He picked up four wickets at an average of 26.75 in the first test of the series. The highlight of his Test career came in the away series against India in January/February 1999, where he achieved his first ten wicket haul in a test match. In the first test, with India needing only 17 runs to win, Saqlain effectively sealed Pakistan's win by taking the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar who had scored 136. He ended the series with twenty wickets at an average of 20.15, which earned him the Man of the Series award.

Domestic career

Saqlain represented Surrey for eight successive seasons, from 1997 to 2004. However, his time there was interrupted and his international career with Pakistan effectively ended in 2004.

In August 2005, he played his first match after recovering from injury against Bangladesh A, and took 4-87 from 35 overs bowled over two innings. However that same week, in his return to the County Championship, he conceded 110 off 28 overs against Gloucestershire, taking just one wicket.

In February 2006, he signed for Ireland for the C&G Trophy, along with fellow team mate Abdul Razzaq.

Later in February 2007, Sussex announced that Saqlain had signed a two-year contract with them. His initial requirement was to cover for fellow Pakistanis, Mushtaq Ahmed and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan who were part of Pakistan's World Cup campaign. On 26 September 2007, Saqlain was released by the county on his request. On 8 October 2007 Saqlain was re-signed by Surrey.

On 28 October, according to Cricinfo, he was released by Surrey.

In April 2009 he joined Old Whigiftians CC to play in the Surrey Championship. He took 64 wickets in his first season, including five 5 wicket hauls to earn Whits promotion to the first division. He was also involved in the youth game setup. In 2010, after relocating to Leicestershire, he joined Syston Town Cricket Club, playing in the Everards County League.

In late 2010, he was training in Taunton at the facilities of Somerset County Cricket Club, whom he has now joined as a temporary spin-bowling coach for the 2011 Caribbean Twenty20 competition.

Playing style

Saqlain is credited with the invention of the "doosra", an off-spinner's delivery which is bowled with an action very similar to that of an off-break. However, it spins in the opposite direction (i.e. from the leg side to the off side), easily confusing batsmen, making it a very effective weapon. Saqlain became well-known for this variation ball, which was integral to his success, although he received criticism for overusing it.

His other variation was the arm-ball, which again uses a similar action to the off-break, but causes the ball to go straight on without turning.

During his time at Surrey, Saqlain worked on developing new deliveries which he called the "teesra" and the "chotha". However little else is known about these deliveries.

Records and achievements

Saqlain was selected as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year for 2000.

A statistical analysis conducted by Wisden in 2003 revealed Saqlain as the all-time greatest ODI spinner, and sixth greatest of all ODI bowlers.

Was the fastest to reach the milestones of 100, 150, 200 and 250 wickets in ODIs.

He was the first of only two spinners to have taken a hat-trick in an ODI (the other being Abdur Razzak), and the second of only four bowlers to have taken two ODI hat tricks (Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga being the others), the second of which was only the second hat-trick in a World Cup match.

Personal life

After marrying a British citizen, Saqlain gained a British passport, which made him eligible to play for England after a four-year qualification period that ended in April 2008.
