FASHION TRENDS 2023

With all the spring/summer fashion 2023 shows now over. We have noted down and pulled out the key spring fashion trends to look out for this year, and while designers stayed true to their own personal style signatures, there were some common key ideas that we expect will trickle down through straight-to-market collections, and into our wardrobes.

2023 Style Trend: Oversized Everything

Gen Z has already banished the skinny jean from their closets, and Rayburn thinks they're onto something. With oversized blazers and extra-large shirts trending on the TikTok For You page every other day, Rayburn predicts the oversized trend will only grow in strength next year, with even the bottom of our pants expanding. So here’s to embracing flared bottoms and wide-leg jeans in 2023.

The Pakistan Fashion Council

The Pakistan Fashion Council was formed by the pillars of the fashion industry. The council’s main objectives are to encourage, foster, promote, enhance, facilitate and assist individuals and/or design houses in the sale and promotion of high quality garments in the domestic market. The export of Pakistani branded goods to various international buying houses as well as retail stores especially in the high fashion and value addition sector is also of paramount importance. The Council also aims to raise funds through sponsorship and donations/subsidies from the private sector and government agencies to aid in the holding of an annual Fashion Week to introduce the above mentioned goods to the domestic and international markets by showcasing them through a series of shows. The funds raised by the holding of this event will be used to set up a polytechnic to train specialized labor to maintain high international standards of sewing and finishing as well as create new jobs for embroiderers and encourage craft revival. We also hope to eventually set up a permanent venue for the holding of mini shows for international buyers as well as a textile and research cell and a fashion and costume museum. The council also aims to buy machinery that is unaffordable to individuals, to be used by any designer to facilitate creative design for the export market. The participation of exceptionally talented students in international fairs will be subsidized by the Council as will apprenticeship and internships, grants and scholarships. We hope that by the profiling of designers and high quality fashion labels in international markets the Council will be able to place Pakistan on the high end map and show a softer image.

A fashion show

is an event put on by a fashion designer to showcase his or her upcoming line of clothing during Fashion Week. Fashion shows debut every season, particularly the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons. This is where the latest fashion trends are made. The two most influential fashion weeks are Paris Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week, which are both semiannual events. Also the Milan, London and Berlin Fashion Week are of global importance.
In a typical fashion show, models walk the catwalk dressed in the clothing created by the designer. Occasionally, fashion shows take the form of installations, where the models are static, standing or sitting in a constructed environment. The order in which each model walks out wearing a specific outfit is usually planned in accordance to the statement that the designer wants to make about his or her collection. It is then up to the audience to not only try to understand what the designer is trying to say by the way the collection is being presented, but to also visually deconstruct each outfit and try to appreciate the detail and craftsmanship of every single piece. A wide range of contemporary designers tend to produce their shows as theatrical productions with elaborate sets and added elements such as live music or a variety of technological components like holograms, for example.
