Best Days of the Week to Trade

So now we know that the London session is the busiest out of all the other sessions, but there are also certain days in the week where all the markets tend to show more movement.

Below is a chart of average pip range for the major pairs for each day of the week:

As you can see from the chart above, it would probably be best to trade during the middle of the week, since this is when the most action happens.

Fridays are usually busy until 12:00 pm EST and then the market pretty much drops dead until it closes at 5:00 pm EST. This means we only work half-days on Fridays.

The weekend always starts early! Yippee!

So based on all these, we’ve learned when the busiest times of the market are. The busiest times are the best times to trade because they give you a higher chance of success.

Managing Yo Time Wisely

Unless you’re Edward Cullen, who does not sleep, there is no way you can trade all sessions. Even if you could, why would you? While the forex market is open 24 hours daily, it doesn’t mean that action happens all the time!

Besides, sleep is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle!

You need sleep to recharge and have energy so that you can do even the most mundane tasks like mowing the lawn, talking to your spouse, taking the dog for a walk, or organizing your stamp collection. You’ll definitely need your rest if you plan on becoming a hotshot trader.

Knowing the optimal times you should trade and the times when you should sit out and just play some Plants vs. Zombies can help save you a pound of moolah (pun intended).

Best Times to Trade:

When two sessions are overlapping of course! These are also the times where major news events come out to potentially spark some volatility and directional movements. Make sure you bookmark the Market Hours cheat sheet to take note of the Opening and Closing times.
The European session tends to be the busiest out of the three.
The middle of the week typically shows the most movement, as the pip range widens for most of the major currency pairs.

Worst Times to Trade:

Sundays – everyone is sleeping or enjoying their weekend!
Fridays – liquidity dies down during the latter part of the U.S. session.
Holidays – everybody is taking a break.
Major news events – you don’t want to get whipsawed!
During American Idol, the NBA Finals, or the Superbowl.

Ask DaniELLE: How Should I Dress For My Internship?

Q: I am a fashion intern and want to show my style at work. How do I dress appropriately for the office and still maintain my identity?

A: This is a great question. I am a true expert on how to dress for the office because I spend more time at the office than I do anywhere else. I also was an intern for five years and then an assistant for three years after that, so I have seen it all when it comes to the hits and misses of this particular style genre.

When you work in fashion (or want to work in fashion), offices generally are a little more laid back regarding appropriate attire. For example, wearing shredded denim does not create the same shock waves that it would if say, my mother’s assistant at the Board of Education decided to. Sure, this means we have a little more freedom. But freedom can be dangerous.

An important thing to remember when considering how to dress for your internship is functionality. As an intern, you need to be ready for anything. Unfortunately, that usually means tasks that require a lot of running around which translates to one necessity: flat shoes. I walked my fair-share of dogs and frequented Starbucks almost hourly in my day. If you're a fashion girl that loves heels or are particularly challenged in the height department, there are still plenty of shoe options. The other thing to consider about dressing for the office is modesty in both cut and color. (You don’t want to be the intern in a neon tulle tutu, trust me.)

This week, I asked Elle.com interns, Tasa and Mary Grace, about what they like to wear and put together some looks based on their answers. Mary Grace told me that she gravitates toward a pin-up style with quirky pop culture references. For her, I recommend choosing prints that are somewhat neutral: plaids, skins, dots and stripes. That way, she can still have fun getting dressed without being overly trendy.
Tasa, on the other hand veers toward a more minimal, menswear inspired aesthetic. She borrows a lot of her mom’s designer pieces and mixes them with more casual staples like leather leggings and ankle booties. This is the perfect foundation for building a work wardrobe that will last.

When you are an intern, working for free and in college, you are probably doing a lot of things on a budget. It is important to remember that at the end of the day, your fashion internship is not about what you are wearing but what you can learn. There are new clothes every single season! So it's fine if you don’t have everything you want now. If you keep working hard, one day, you will.
